Chris Burt
Chris Burt is a Parenting and Family Development specialist with over 16 years of experience supporting families with challenging family and relationship issues, as well as supporting and enhancing community and government system interventions for children and families. Chris’s volunteer experience includes: PAC representative at Cove Cliff Elementary School; Parent Education Chair at the Deep Cove Parent Participation Preschool, and as a youth mentor and interventionist. Chris, his spouse, Teresa, and two elementary school age children have lived in the community for 10 years. |

Andrea Conn
|
Andrea Conn's roots run deep in the Seymour area as her family has lived in the community for over a century. Her mother attended the one room school located in “the Cove” and her grandfather worked for the Vancouver Shipyards in North Vancouver. In the pioneering spirit of her family, and in her role as Branch Manager of North Shore Credit Union's Parkgate branch, Andrea has been instrumental in establishing a service standard which recently captured the attention of the community by being voted one of the "Best Financial Institutions" on the North Shore. Andrea is proud to have supported the area’s youth by volunteering for the Junior Achievement program as well as the annual Seycove Auction. Andrea is also an active Board member for the Seymour Art Gallery and provides council to various related committees including finance and human resources. Andrea and her family have enjoyed many of Parkgate Community Centre services over the years including the seniors’ centre, summer camps, youth programs and numerous social events. “We consider ourselves fortunate to have a centre which is the true heart of our community, providing support, leadership and adventure to people and groups of all ages”, says Andrea, “and it is my distinct honour to serve among the dedicated volunteers and staff that work everyday to ensure our community centre is one to be proud of. |
David Evans
David Evans graduated from Lakehead University with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1980. He is a property developer working with the Sawatzky Group of Companies in Moscow, Russia. David moved to this community in December of 1999 and “commutes” to Moscow on a regular basis From 2001 to 2004 he was on the Executive Committee of the Deep Cove Parent Participation Preschool, serving one year as President. David has two daughters. |

Ron Hart
|
Ron Hart moved with his parents from Scotland in 1952 and has lived on the North Shore ever since. The last 26 years he has lived in the heart of Deep Cove with his wife Louise.Ron has worked in the field of labour relations for the last 35 years (specializing in compensation and negotiations) and operated his own labour relations consulting firm since 1989 until his retirement in late 2009. He has been an active member of Parkgate for the last 12 years. He was the President of the North Shore Cardiac Rehab which runs a cardiac rehab class in conjunction with Parkgate and two other Community Centres and he still participates in the program. Both Ron & Louise are volunteers at Parkgate. Ron’s previous volunteering commitments include membership on boards and committees for United Way, Vancouver Gyro Club, Seymour Area Youth Services, Canadian Mental Health, BC Children’s Hospital, BC Tennis Umpire Association. Ron has worked with a variety of staff at Parkgate and hopes to be able assist them in continuing to improve the services provided to our community. |
Tim Lallas
Tim Lallas resides in the Indian River area of Seymour with his wife and child. He is Chief Financial Officer of Greystar Resources Ltd. Tim has had significant experience in the mining industry with particular emphasis on operational reviews, and construction auditing with the objective of achieving significant cost recoveries, on a variety of contracts relating to the construction of a major mine, in Latin America. In addition, Tim has significant experience working in different cultures and working environments, having spent a significant amount of time in the last nine years in Latin America, and prior to immigrating to Canada, working in South Africa and throughout south, central and East Africa. Tim volunteers at his church, and is currently Treasurer, which requires significant investment in time and effort. Tim's leisure interests include: road biking; strength and cardio training; hiking and reading historical novels. |

Brad Lund
|
Brad Lund has lived in the community (east of the Seymour) since birth. Born at Lions Gate Hospital he attended Maplewood Elementary, Windsor Secondary, Capilano Collage and SFU where he received his teaching certificate. He went on to do a Masters in Administration and Counselling at San Diego State University. He has been an educator on the North Shore for 30 years, teaching and administrating in both North and West Vancouver. He is currently the Principal of Caulfeild Elementary and Eagle Harbour Primary Schools. Brad has volunteered in with many organizations over the years including, Keats Camps, Young Life, West Vancouver Baptist Church, Hillside Baptist Church, Vancouver Opera, and UNICEF. Brad, wife Bev and 2 children all use the Parkgate Community Centre weekly. |
Brian Lynch
Born and raised in New Zealand, Brian Lynch is a retired educator with four years teaching experience in his home country, two years with the Canadian Armed Forces schools in Germany and thirty-six years as a teacher and counsellor in the West Vancouver School District. As a volunteer, Brian has coached, managed and sponsored a number of sports at the high school and provincial levels over a period of many years. He has been President of the BC Secondary Schools’ Rugby Union for twenty years, is a former President of BC SCHOOL SPORTS and has also served two separate terms on the BC Rugby Board of Directors, most recently as Director of Provincial Teams. Brian has lived in the Parkgate and Indian River neighbourhoods since 1991, and has served on the Strata Council of two separate complexes for much of that time. He is an enthusiastic recreational cyclist, a keen photographer and very much enjoys travelling both within Canada and overseas. He is frequently to be found in the Centre’s Weight Room , enjoys his ‘Real Men Do Yoga’ classes and looks forward to being actively involved in supporting the services that Parkgate provides to the members of his community. |

Brenda Marson
|
Brenda Marson has lived on the North Shore for most of her life and currently lives in the Indian River area, with her husband and young son. She is an instructor at Langara College, teaching English academic preparation skills to students from a variety of ethnic backgrounds. She has extensive experience in secondary and adult education, including teaching, mentoring, curriculum development, and administration. Brenda’s volunteer work includes providing guidance and support to new immigrant family members who are unable to get out into their community. She has worked with them, giving language lessons and advising them on issues related to adapting to a new culture. She has worked with elementary-aged children, leading group activities at after-school care. She has also tutored sick children and adolescents during their stay at Children’s Hospital, giving one-on-one teaching to enable them to keep up with their studies. Brenda and her family enjoy the programs and services offered at Parkgate and she is excited to have the opportunity to give back to her neighborhood and be actively involved in serving the needs of the people within the community. |
Claire Moloney
Claire Moloney lives in Blueridge with her husband Chris and their two daughters. Originally from Ireland, Claire spent some time in Toronto and Calgary before moving to North Vancouver in 1994. Claire's professional background includes over 20 years in Advertising Sales and Marketing in the newspaper and TV industries most recently with CanWest, owners of The Vancouver Sun, The Province, Global TV and the North Shore News among other media outlets across Canada. Since March of 2008, Claire has stayed home full time with her family and is an active volunteer with St. Pius X Elementary school as well as the North Shore Female Ice Hockey Association. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Claire enjoys many of the recreation options North Vancouver has to offer. |

Ngaire Roberts
|
Ngaire and her husband moved to the Seymour area in 1995. Ngaire has worked for the Ministry of Social Services in the Income Assistance Division; Human Resources at the BC Archives and Records Service in Victoria; and several other Government agencies and Ministries. Ngaire's volunteer work includes: North Vancouver District Child Care Grants Committee, Girl Guides of Canada leader, Parent Advisory Committee President, Block Watch Captain. Ngaire has two school-aged children and she and her family have enjoyed many activities at Parkgate over the past several years. She is very pleased to now be able to give back to her community and become more integrally involved in the governance of Parkgate Community Centre. |
Cathi Stephens
Deep Cove has been home since 1989 to Cathi, her husband and three young daughters. Much of Cathi's volunteer time has been devoted to: the West Vancouver Field Hockey Club; the North Shore Girls Soccer Club; and the dragon boat community in Deep Cove. She has always believed that if people enjoy the benefits of an activity, sport or service, then they have to be prepared to step up and help make those things happen. Cathi's professional background in marketing and advertising began in financial services with VanCity Credit Union; moving to sports and event marketing for clients such as Ironman Canada; public transportation marketing at BC Transit; and ten years managing design projects at Karo Design for various entities from major public corporations to small private companies.
In 2005, intending to step back and focus more in the community, Cathi started ski instructing at Mt. Seymour and developing dragon boat paddling programs with Deep Cove Canoe & Kayak Centre. Cathi says that working with Parkgate Community Services Board of Directors allows her to support, on a broader scale, services and programs to meet the needs of our community. |

Duties and Expectations of the Board and Directors
The Boards’ responsibilities lie in five key areas:
Establishing the Society’s organizational objectives

Responsible for the vision, mission and values

Responsible for strategic planning

Responsible for evaluations
Ensuring the financial health of the organization

Responsible for ensuring there are adequate financial resources for the work of the organization
Ensuring the Society has sufficient and appropriate human resources

Responsible for the working conditions in the organization

Responsible for hiring, giving direction to and evaluating the Executive Director
Directing organizational operations

Responsible for ensuring that the organization and its directors are in compliance with its legal requirements

Responsible for ensuring that the board works effectively

Responsible for overseeing organizational structure and administration
Ensuring effective community relations

Responsible for responding to changing needs and issues in the community

Responsible for finding ways to meet emerging needs
The directors of the society have the following duties:
Duty of attention
-
Directors cannot be figure heads. They must pay attention to and be active in the business of the Society.

Each director is expected to be a member of at least one standing committee.
-
Directors should be prepared to spend a minimum of 4.5 to 5 hours per month attending Board and committee meetings.
Duty of care
-
Directors must participate in decision making based on solid information. It is each director’s duty to attend meetings, and to ask questions. They must care for the health of the Society, its people and its property.
Duty of obedience
-
Directors must know the mission and bylaws of the Society, and be aware of laws and regulations affecting it.
Duty of loyalty
-
Each director must make decisions that are in the best interest of the Society. Any conflicts of interest must be declared.
Fiduciary duty
-
Each director is responsible for the financial health of the organization by insuring that adequate financial systems are in place.
