Parkgate Community Services Society is a registered, not for profit society. Parkgate Community Services is pleased to accept all financial donations. All financial donations will receive charitable tax receipts.You may specify which program area you wish to support through your financial contribution. Alternatively, you may wish to donate to the Parkgate Community Legacy Fund. Parkgate Seniors' Centre - Operation
Mission: To enhance the well being and quality of life for older adults living in our community by providing a safe, welcoming, positive environment for everyone.
The Seniors' Centre at Parkgate Community Centre is operated and staffed by Parkgate Community Services. Guided by the Seniors' Advisory Committee, the Parkgate Seniors' Centre provides a variety of programs including instructional learning, physical activity, drop-in socials, special events and bus trips. Phone or drop into the Centre to keep up to date on new developments.
Sponsorship - Parkgate Seniors' Centre
Pacific Arbour Retirement Communities is the official presenting sponsor of six annual social events in the Seniors' Centre at Parkgate. Pacific Arbour Retirement Communities also sponsors seniors' trips and outings using the Parkgate bus.
Parkgate Seniors' Centre Membership
Yearly membership: $20 (1/2 price from July 1st to Dec 31st)
Why buy a membership? You will receive discounts on all bus trips and special programs. It is also a way to say, yes, I support my Seniors' Centre! Memberships may be purchased at the reception desk.
Volunteers
Volunteers play a vital role in our community and at the Centre. They are active in all components of the programs and services offered at the Centre. Dedicated volunteers and staff work together in a manner that builds and maintains friendships and enhances and ensures quality programs and services. Retired adults and community members can use their wide range of skills and experience in assisting the Centre to reach its potential and meet community needs. Lunches and Diners Club
Lunches - Enjoy home-cooked soups and sandwiches prepared by volunteer Seniors.
Lunches are served Monday and Wednesday: 11:30am - 1:00pm.
- BBQ lunches are offered on Wednesdays during the months of July and August.
Seniors' Luncheon Club - first Monday of the month - join your friends for an enjoyable lunch at a local restaurant. Call the Seniors' Centre at 604-983-6350 to reserve a spot, or for a ride. $3:00 bus service fee (price does not include lunch).
Diners' Club - Tired of eating alone? Having difficulty preparing your own meals? Enjoy a hot meal in the evening in the warmth and companionship of others. Parkgate Seniors' Centre is happy to welcome the "DINERS' CLUB". The Diners' Club Seniors Congregate Meal Program is sponsored by Vancouver Coastal Health.
- This meal will offer dinners on TUESDAY evenings in the Seniors' Centre
- Dinners are served at 5:00 pm
- A full-course meal is $6:00
- Free bus service from Lions Manor in Deep Cove and the Atrium on Parkgate Avenue
- A RESERVATION must be made by 10:00 am on the day of the dinner
- Take home dinners may also be ordered

SENIORS' WELLNESS PARK AT PARKGATE PARK
The North Shore's first Seniors' Wellness Park, located in Parkgate Park at the end of Parkgate Avenue, North Vancover is now open for use.
The park has 18 blue painted reinforced machines set in a circular format and is divided into four areas:
- Cardio
- Strength
- Flexibility
- Rehabilitation
There is a fifth area which is a permanently inserted rubber mat suitable for stretching, Tai Chi or yoga.
The Seniors' Wellness Park was funded by the District of North Vancouver and the Province of British Columbia, with the Mt. Seymour Lions Club donating an on-site information kiosk outlining the park's facilities.

Computer Classes - This course is geared to the absolute beginner and will stress how you use your mouse and keyboard. You will also gain an understanding of what is happening on your monitor screen and the main components of the computer. Cost: $5.00 on Tues/Wed - 3pm to 4pm. Bus Trips
Trips depart from and return to Parkgate Community Centre. If there are request for pick ups or drop offs at another location we will do our best to accommodate those requests. We also do pickups at the Lions Manor. Evening drop-offs at the Atrium. Please check this month's copy of the 55+ Newsletter (see near top of this page) for upcoming trips, or call 604-983-6350.
Lion's Manor and Atrium Residents - Monthly shopping trips - to various locations including Lynn Valley Shopping Centre, Capilano Mall, Park Royal Shopping Centre. Door to door transportation provided from the Lions Manor and the Atrium.

Fitness and Sports
Active Living is an essential ingredient for a healthy lifestyle. It plays an important role in our overall well being. Physical activity can energize, heal, invigorate, strengthen, nourish, restore and stimulate. At Parkgate, we encourage everyone to participate in activities on a regular basis. There is something to do for everyone.
Spring 2010 Fitness Schedule at Parkgate
North Shore Keep Well Society - runs the "Keep Well" program in partnership with Parkgate Community Centre. This program is designed to promote health and the well-being of older adults living on the North Shore. The program offers mild exercises and a hands on program that includes massage and blood pressure checks. Guest speakers are organized for health related issues and topics of interest to seniors. Pickleball - Keep active with this popular racquet sport. A cross between tennis, badminton and ping-pong, and has been played in North America since 1965.

Heart & Stroke Walking Club - Join your friends for an hour walk around the community and the occasional trip to other sites of interest. Return to Parkgate for tea/coffee. $10/year. Osteo/Arthritis - A specialty class designed for people with osteoporosis and/or arthritis and for pain management. Aerobic activity, stretching, range of motion, strengthening and balance all play an important role in maintaining and improving overall flexibility and mobility. Posture, balance and breathing techniques will be a great part of the program.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Exercise Program - This program is intended for those who have family history of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes etc. or those who would like to prevent a chronic problem. A doctor's clearance is required, as well as a first time consultation with a fitness consultant. Fitness membership is required. Coffee and social in the Mary Hunter Hall afterwards.

Supervised Rehabilitation Program - The SRC is designed to provide clients a supportive atmosphere to lean to improve and to maintain their physical fitness using the weight room. The program is for joint replacement rehabilitation, osteoporosis, arthritis, diabetes, stroke rehab, fibromyalgia, cardiac rehab (phase 4). Fitness membership required.

Parkgate Seniors' Advisory Committee
The Parkgate Seniors' Advisory Committee of Parkgate Community Services is a group of energetic seniors who advise on programming, senior's issues, and act as a liaison to other seniors' groups on the North Shore. Their mandate is to facilitate active living opportunities and to provide programs, services, referrals, and information to 55+ adults in the community.
