Preteen Dances

During the school year, the Youth Services team facilitates preteen dances. The dances are for youth in grades six and seven, and provide opportunities for preteens to explore social interactions in a safe, supervised environment while having fun. The dances also create a shared community experience prior to moving on to high school.  All dances are from 7-10pm. For a complete listing of all dances please see below.

*Tickets for April, and the two dances in May will go on sale March 21, 2018 at 7am.

NEW – You may now be placed on our waiting list if a dance is sold out. This can be done online through NVRC’s eReg, in person at any NVRC front desk or over the phone at 604 983 6350.

There is no dance in September or June. There are 500 tickets to each dance and typically sell out very quickly. Refunds are issued if you withdraw more than 5 days before the dance, as per NVRC’s refund policy.

Note: Playcards are issued for free the first time someone registers for a dance or other program (there is a replacement cost for lost cards). Playcards can be printed at any NVRC community centre.




Frequently Asked Questions
What happens at the Youth Centre?

The Youth Centre at Parkgate Community Centre is a safe space for youth to chill. Free food is available at almost all drop-ins. Facilities include a large screen TV, Wii, PS3, pool table, foosball, air hockey, board games and access to a gymnasium with various sporting equipment. Drop-ins also feature movies, art and crafting materials, climbing wall opportunities and more. To see what is happening, check out the youth events calendar.

Who goes to the Youth Centre?

Youth from ages 11 to 18 are welcome to drop in to the Youth Centre during times listed on the Youth Centre page.  Note that preteens and teens have different drop-in times. Occasionally there are events for youth aged 19 to 24. Please check out the youth events calendar for more information.

Who can I talk to at the Youth Centre?

The Youth Centre is staffed by trained youth workers who can support you through an issue and/or direct you to other community resources.
