Active living is an essential ingredient for a healthy lifestyle. It plays an important role in our overall well being. Physical activity can energize, heal, invigorate, strengthen, nourish, restore and stimulate. At Parkgate, we encourage everyone to participate in activities on a regular basis. There is something to do for everyone.
During this time of physical-distancing, it is more important than ever to continue with our physical activity. Many of our wonderful Parkgate fitness instructors are busy creating virtual fitness programs that you can do from the safety of your own home and at whatever time is convenient for you. Please check back regularly as we add more virtual fitness programming:
For all registered programs, you can register online, by phone or in person at the Parkgate front desk. Please visit the Parkgate registration  page for more details. Drop-in programs require a membership ($5 annually) and have a drop-in fee payable at the front desk.
Programs offered by Parkgate Community Services Society:
Chair Yoga 55+ Mild yoga for those who cannot fold themselves into a pretzel on the floor. Gain flexibility and strength and reduce stress through active breathing. Fridays: 9:45 -10:45am. Register for a full season or drop-in.
Parkgate Pacers (Walking Group) Join us for an hour walk around the community and the occasional trip to other sites of interest in a group. The group meets at the front entrance of Parkgate Community Centre and returns to Parkgate for tea/coffee. Start times vary depending on the season of the year. Call the Parkgate front desk to confirm: 604-983-6350. FREE, must hold valid Seniors’ Membership.
- Monday and Thursday: October – April 1pm start, May – September 9:30am start.
- Coffee social after for $1
North Shore Keep Well Society  in partnership with Parkgate Community Services Society and North Vancouver Recreation & Culture. The program is designed to promote the health and the well-being of older adults living on the North Shore. The program offers mild exercises, massage and blood pressure checks. Guest speakers are invited to speak about health-related issues and topics of interest to seniors.
- Tuesdays: 9:30-10:30am
- 10:30-11:30am: blood pressure checks, massage and coffee service
- Guest speaker: fourth Tuesday of each month
- Coffee service (no coffee service in August)
SUREFEET: Balance and mobility programs. This twice weekly program is designed for seniors to increase balance and mobility, self-confidence, and reduce the risk of falling. Participants re-train their bodies to provide more stability, increase core body strength and to develop skills for fall prevention.

Drop-in Sport: $3 drop-in fee
Seniors’ Badminton: Join other players in the Parkgate Gymnasium. Learn basic strokes, rules, court play and etiquette, or just come down and play a social game.

Pickleball 55+: A game which combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis, played with a hard paddle and waffle ball and with a net lower than most other raquet sports.

Our partner, North Vancouver Recreation & Culture, operates the Fitness Centre and the majority of the fitness classes offered at Parkgate Community Centre. Find your favorite in the Adult fitness classes or try one of the 50+ or 55+ classes or programs.
Please note that some of the Specialty Fitness Classes require a specialty fitness membership and depending on the class, a physician referral is required or consultation recommended.
