VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: January – March 2020

This is by no means an exhaustive list – please let us know if you want to volunteer but don’t see anything that fits your interests or schedule. You don’t have to commit to every week. Pick and choose what dates/times work for you and just let us know!

 Volunteering With Children:

  • Children’s 4-6yr old climbing program
    • Wednesdays, 2:15-3:15
    • bonus if you have belay experience! (but not necessary)
  • Children’s Pottery Classes, Volunteer Helper:
    • Saturdays 9:30-10:30am
    • Saturdays 10:30-11:30am
    • Saturdays 11:30am-12:30pm
  • Child Care – Gain skills while participating in activities with the kids:
    • Infants & Toddlers: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays
      9-11am or Thursday 3:30-5:00pm
    • 3-5 Year Olds: 9-11am Mon, Tues, We, Thurs, or Fridays
    • After School play with 6-12 year olds: Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, or Fridays
  • Child Care: Help prepare snacks for 3-5 year olds, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays, 8am – 9am
  • Birthday Party Assistant, Saturday mornings
  • Sports Class Assistant for the following Saturday classes (until March):
    • Soccer 3-5 Year Olds, Saturdays, 10-10:30am
    • Ball Sports 2-4 Year Olds, Saturdays, 10:35-11:05am
    • Soccer 3-5 Year Olds, Saturdays, 11:10-11:40am
    • Sports – All Sorts 3-5 Year Olds, Saturdays, 11:45am-12:15pm
    • Floor Hockey 3-5 Year Olds, Saturdays, 12:20-12:50pm

Volunteering  With Preteens:

  • Grades 11 through to adults: Volunteer at Parkgate’s famous preteen dance, Saturday, March 7th 4:30pm-10:30pm (we ask everyone to commit to at least 4hrs)
    • 4:30pm – 8:30pm: Set-up for concession area, games room, put up signs, etc
    • 5:30pm – 9:30pm: Get the gym ready: lights, speakers, tent, chairs & tables, etc.
    • 6pm – 10pm – enjoy the pre-dance meal, get a shirt and name tag, and group meeting

  • Adults – Volunteer with local youth in our School’s Out Program, Mondays and Tuesdays, 3pm – 5pm.

Parkgate Society has started a new after school program for Cove Cliff youth in grades 5-7. “School’s Out” will feature swimming at Ron Andrews, arts and crafts, sports, cooking, ice skating, laser tag, complimentary snacks and bus pass, and much more!

Volunteering With Older Adults:

  • Monday coffee service, 9:55 – 1pm. Prepare coffee and fill a tray with treats – then roll the coffee trolley to offer coffee service to various seniors programs
  • Tuesdays or Thursdays between 10:45am-4pm: Help our seniors with dementia to do fun activities in My Parkgate BREAK (help out from 1hr to the full 5 hours or anything in between).  There is a lot of social interaction, physical activities (walking, badminton, gardening, etc), homemade lunch and snacks, brain and body fitness class, outings to Deep Cove and other areas, crafting, and much more.
  • Wednesday, 11:15am -3pm: Help our seniors with dementia to do fun activities in My Parkgate Mini BREAK (help out from 1hr to the full 5 hours or anything in between) Parkgate Society’s new one day a week Mini Dementia Program accommodates the people on the waiting list for My Parkgate Break. This mini program will feature lunch, social time, activities, and brain/body fitness.
  • Tuesdays, March 3, 17, 11-2:30: Help a senior with their shopping. Parkgate Society is starting a new Access Bus to help isolated seniors get out and shop. Private bus transportation provided. Know a senior? Refer them!
  •  Volunteer drivers to help people without vehicles get to their Parkgate programs (through NSCR Better at Home)

1. Complete the online application form:

2. The volunteer coordinator will contact you within 7 – 10 days to arrange a time to meet and see what might a best fit for you here at Parkgate.

3. Complete and sign all required forms
(hard copies are also available at the Parkgate Front Desk):

  1. Volunteer Criminal Record Check: required for all volunteers
  2. Volunteer Immunization Form: required for all Child Care and Day Camp volunteers. Also see Routine Adult Immunization Schedule
  3. Photograph Release Form: required for all volunteers
  4. Become a vital part of the Parkgate Community!
