Meet the Camp Leaders

EmilyEmily Maxwell, Camp Supervisor After volunteering for our summer camps Emily was brought on as a full time summer camp staff member in 2014. During the school year, she is a youth worker down in the Parkgate Youth Centre for drop-ins, movie nights, and pre-teen dances. Teaching is Emily’s calling and she is receiving her Bachelor of Education in May 2015. She loves to be outdoors hiking with her dogs, swimming, biking, or playing guitar and wants to be a famous rock star/high school counselor when she grows up.

NeilNeil Smith, Camp Leader Neil works in the Parkgate and Seymour School Age Care Programs and has a history of teaching various sports and climbing programs over the years at Parkgate. This is his second summer working at Summer Daycamps where he’s already known as a playful, goofy, funny and energetic leader. Neil is an English student at Capilano University and working towards a career in education. To our team he also brings his musical talents in singing and playing guitar.

Kelsey Hansell, Camp Supervisor Kelsey is sure this third year supervising camps at Parkgate will be the best one yet! Her almost four years of experience with PCSS has taken her to  Infant/Toddler care, 3-5 care, School Age care, and Preteen Dances. Kelsey is currently completing her sociology degree through distance education. Her goal is to become a youth social worker although, like Peter Pan, she secretly hopes she never grows up!

Nicole_DSCF0189Nicole Hocevar, Camp Supervisor This summer will be Nicole’s 10th year working in the Parkgate’s Licensed Summer Camps. Nicole has a School-age Child Care Certificate from Douglas College and her extensive work experience with PCSS covers all the ages from infant/toddler care to preteen dances. This makes her one of a kind educator who gets to know many of our kids and families beyond age groups. Because of the camps, summer is Nicole’s favorite time of the year! She loves playing camp games, meeting new children and visiting all the fun locations our city has to offer. Try to guess how many cameras Nicole has in her collection and ask her the correct answer!
